How Papaya Boosts Health and Beauty

Papayas are packed with minerals and nutrients that boost collagen production and nourish skin. These super fruits contain papain, beta hydroxy acid, potassium, vitamins A and C, and other enzymes to make your skin glow, says Healthline.

Beta Hydroxy Acid

Papayas contain beta hydroxy acid, a natural exfoliant, to speed skin cell turnover and reveal your freshest skin. Beta hydroxy works gently on skin while removing oils, dead skin cells, and impurities. With regular use, beta hydroxy acid fades dark spots, evens skin tone, and reduces the appearance of pores.

Papain

In addition to beta hydroxy, papayas contain papain, an enzyme unique to papayas that leaves skin fresh and glowing. Also a natural exfoliant, papain enhances the power of beta hydroxy acid to detox your skin and remove dirt and other pore-cloggers, says dermatologist Dr. Surbhi.

Vitamins A and C

In addition to natural exfoliants, papayas contain vitamins A and C to strengthen skin, fight wrinkles, and prevent free radical damage, says Healthline. So, eat papayas to look and feel healthier and younger.

Potassium

Papayas also contain potassium, which helps your body make the best use of the minerals and vitamins it digests. By consuming potassium-rich foods, such as papayas, carrots, and spinach, you’ll help your body put those nutrients to good use.

Now, let’s make that papaya mask.

Now, while you’re waiting, whip up this delicious papaya and banana smoothie.

Papaya + Banana Smoothie Ingredients

  • 1/2 medium papaya, seeded and chopped
  • 1 large ripe banana
  • 1 1/2 cups vanilla (or plain) almond milk
  • 2 tablespoons raw honey
  • 1 cup ice

Instructions

  • Blend all ingredients until smooth.
  • Pour into a glass and serve.

Also, feel free to adapt the ingredients any way you like. For instance, if you love sweets, add extra honey or agave and vanilla almond milk. Otherwise, skip the sweet stuff and go the plain route.

After 15 to 20 minutes, rinse off your mask with warm water or a washcloth and pat your skin dry. Follow with serum, moisturizer, and sunscreen.

Enjoy your new skin!
